A Day to Remember – TSMFL Development Chess Tournament

What are the makings of a day to remember? A picture-perfect sunny day, gorgeous smiles or exciting chess games?

All these and more were present at the TSMFL Development Tournament, hosted by Tsogo Sun Montecasino in collaboration with TSMFL, forming part of the conclusion of the Tsogo Sun Millionaire Satellite Chess Festival.

Arriving at 10:30am, 48 children from Diepsloot were treated to a breakfast by Tsogo Sun Montecasino, preparing them to a day filled with fun, learning, creative activities and above all, CHESS!

3 work stations were set up for the days’ activities and games.  Several chess concepts and principles were covered during each session, coupled with several fun interactive MiniChess® activities, including connect-the-dots, colouring, face-painting as well as cutting and decorating crowns.

The children also had to have their thinking caps on for the chess puzzles illustrated, discussed and solved at the third work station.

Each of these sessions were presented by two TSMFL tutors per station, with the TSMFL Johannesburg Team and several Tsogo Sun Montecasino employees assisting with the various activities and games.

Tsogo Sun Montecasino ensured that each participant received a fresh, well-balanced lunch box, fortifying both body and mind for the intense chess tournament following that afternoon.

The day’s activities were concluded with a group photo taken with South Africa’s first Grand Master Kenny Solomon, a big round of applause for our sponsor Tsogo Sun Montecasino, a small prize-giving and smiling faces all around!
