Recently Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Lisa Griffiths, the Regional Tutor and Trainer based in Richards Bay, Kwa Zulu Natal was presented with a unique challenge by her enthusiastic pupils.

While encouraging her pupils to engage in chess in their home environment a massive logistical challenge confronted her : there was no equipment for the children to utilize outside the school environment.

Here Lisa’s innovative and creative instincts kicked in and a solution was found.

After making up an example, she has encouraged the children to create their own chess boards and pieces by utilising materials that are available to the them. The exercise is two fold…it encourages innovation and created an awareness for the pupils of the importance of “recycling waste products”

eco2The solution was an entertaining and fun exercise whereby under Lisa’s guidance the scholars will initially create their own chess board on a piece of cardboard. The next step will be to create the chess pieces which are coloured cold drink “tops” with the name of the chess piece on the top.

eco3Full marks to Lisa Griffiths for this fantastic innovation.

Tsogo Sun Moves for Life, encouraging creative thinking…..changing lives of our children.
